REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

We love the environment and do everything we can to minimise our environmental footprint. We do this by working hard to reduce what we send to landfill, by using environmentally friendly cleaning and care products, by recycling as much as possible and by feeding all food scraps to the Lawn Road Retreat chooks.

REDUCE

Not only do our chooks provide hours of fun for kids who love collecting and eating the eggs, but having them also means that all our guests food scraps can be eaten by them rather than them going to landfill.

REUSE

We love our cleaning products. They are locally sourced and 100% natural. All the containers are refillable too so by reusing them we don’t have to send anything to landfill.

RECYCLE

Our guests are given lots of recycling opportunities. We provide the standard recycling containers for glass, plastic and cardboard as well other containers (pictured) for smaller items like bottle tops, tin foil, glad wrap, soft plastics and batteries etc. We take all of these to the local Environment Centre for them to recycle.

DRY FIREWOOD

All firewood is bought for Lawn Road Retreat is from a reputable supplier. It is completely dry to ensure a clean burn and minimal emissions. Pine and Gum are supplied. Gum can be used once the fire is established so reducing the amount of wood needed for the duration of the fire.

WITH SMALL TOILET PAPER

With Small toilet paper is made from 100% bamboo and is tree free. We love using it because 270,000 trees get flushed down the loo every single day for toilet paper use alone and by using With Small toilet paper we aren’t adding to this figure.

LOCALLY MADE HAND SOAPS

We use locally made hand soaps by Casa Lavanda. They are lovely to use and it is so nice to know that we are supporting another local business as well as minimising transportation requirements.

  • Lawn Road Retreat exceeded our expectations when we stayed for the Hawke’s Bay marathon event this year. So much so that we immediately booked it again for next year. It’s rare to find a holiday home of such high quality and we all felt instantly at home in the many welcoming and comfortable spaces. So much so that we chose to eat in instead of going out to dinner! The owners had thought of everything and it was a real bonus to have fresh eggs from their chooks. We only whished that we could have stayed for longer. Looking forward to next May already!
  • Beautiful property, perfect for our large groups of 8 couples. Plenty of room for all, multiple living areas and wonderful outdoor entertainment space with fireplace. The pool and spa were both a welcome relief after our day on the bikes. We loved the free range chickens too. Close proximity to wineries and other points of interest. Thoroughly recommend.

Lots of things to amuse the children…the chickens, pool, tennis and cricket on the lawn. We loved the pizza oven and spa and everything was clean.
