Pen’s close by if you need anything, and otherwise the property is entirely yours. Family reunions have room to spread across generations — with a playground and trampoline for the little ones, and plenty of space for adults to retreat to when they need a little quiet time of their own. Golf groups use Lawn Road Retreat as a base for five courses within 22 minutes, including Cape Kidnappers, with a hot tub and pizza oven waiting for the post-round debrief. Corporate teams have a dedicated meeting room and Starlink to keep the workday running smoothly, then the rest of the property to properly switch off.

LIVING

Cathedral ceilings. A log fire. Eight ensuite bedrooms, plus a ninth for larger groups. Two well-equipped kitchens.

“Lawn Road Retreat is the perfect inter-generational place to stay. The manicured property is kitted out with activities for every age group to enjoy together or independently. We celebrated a 70th birthday with family ages from 3 through to 78 years. Everything from feeding the chickens to playing croquet — which was a favourite — darts, pool, tennis, table tennis, cornhole, football was enjoyed. Pen was very helpful and communicative. We arranged a catered meal for one dinner but the rest of the time we self catered. Plenty of fridge space and cooking options. Bedrooms and bathrooms were spotless and configured to accommodate families and individuals. We absolutely loved the three day stay and created such beautiful memories and a ton of laughs.”

Comfortably up to 20. Our standard rate covers up to 16 guests; additional guests up to 20 are charged per person, per night — see Pricing for current rates.

The property has 8/9 ensuite bedrooms. Eight are always made up as bedrooms; the ninth has a Murphy bed with a deluxe mattress and provides an additional lounge that converts into an ensuite bedroom when needed. For groups of 17 or more, bedroom nine is automatically made up. For groups of 16 and under, it can be made up as a ninth bedroom for an additional $100. Two of the nine bedrooms (2 and 3) share an ensuite; every other bedroom, including bedroom nine, has its own private bathroom. There are 10 bathrooms in total, and every bedroom is its own private room.

Yes. Lawn Road Retreat is booked for one group at a time — the house, pool, gardens and grounds are entirely yours from arrival to checkout.

Two fully equipped kitchens, so cooking for a big group is never a bottleneck — whether that’s one big shared meal or a few things happening at once. The property has 3 full sized fridges, 4 dishwashers, 3 ovens and 2 washing machines.

Yes — Starlink ultra-fast broadband is available throughout the property, including the meeting room and outdoor areas. It’s reliable enough for video calls, presentations and streaming, which is a big part of why corporate groups can properly switch off and still get online when they need to.

Yes — families regularly bring three generations together here. There’s a playground, cubby house and trampoline for the kids, and the property is set up for guests with limited mobility too, with ramps to all downstairs living areas plus a dedicated accessible bedroom and bathroom.

Pets aren’t permitted at Lawn Road Retreat. Smoking and vaping aren’t permitted inside — outside, we ask that butts go in the ashtrays provided.

Check-in is from 2pm with check-out by 10am, or from 3pm with check-out by 11am — Pen will confirm which times apply to your stay when you book.

Lawn Road Retreat is in Hastings, about 8 minutes from Havelock North village. Craggy Range and Black Barn wineries are 5 minutes away, the Hawke’s Bay Trails are about five minutes by bike, and Hawke’s Bay Airport (Napier) is 20 minutes. Cape Kidnappers is 10 minutes to the gate — allow 22 minutes to the clubhouse.

On-site parking for up to 10 vehicles, with additional parking available for larger events.
